IVF – In Vitro Fertilization

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a technique where several eggs are retried from women’s ovaries and then fertilized with husband’s sperm outside the body in a controlled environment of the laboratory. Embryo’s are developed which is been transferred to the uterus of female. It is one of the most widely used Assisted reproductive technology (ART).If natural pregnancy is not happening, ART is an option. IVF can help couple in achieving pregnancy when others have failed.

Couples who can have benefit from IVF are: –

  • Women with Fallopian tube damage or blockage: It makes fertilization of eggs and sperm difficulties and for an embryo to move towards a uterus.
  • Ovulation disorders: In this ovulation is rare or absent.
  • Endometriosis: When there is growth and implantation of uterine tissue outside theuterus. It affects the functions of the ovaries, uterus and fallopian tube.
  • Uterine fibroids: It is the growth of the tumor in the uterine wall and it is very common in women who are around 30s and 40s.
  • Previous tubal sterilization or removal: It is a type of surgical process in which the fallopian tubes are permanently cut or blocked to avoid pregnancy.

  • Unexplained infertility: in this there is no obvious pathology but it is the most common factor.

  • Women with no ovaries or no eggs in ovaries (Oocyte Donation).
  • Women with no uterus or surgically removed uterus (Surrogacy).
